How to Hide the Excerpt but Keep the 'Read More' Link in a Summary Block in Squarespace

If you're using a summary block in Squarespace and wish you could show just the “Read More” link without displaying the excerpt text you may have noticed this limitation. As of the time of the tutorial below, July 2025, Squarespace doesn’t give you the option to display one without the other. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

Here’s a quick and easy workaround using CSS. And if you’d also like to change the text on the “Read More” link, I’ve got another blog post that walks you through exactly how to do that—be sure to check it out!

Why You Might Want to Hide the Excerpt

Sometimes, displaying both the excerpt and the “Read More” link can clutter your layout—especially if your excerpt is long or your design is more minimal. Hiding the excerpt while keeping the link can create a cleaner, more streamlined experience for your website visitors.

How to Hide the Excerpt But Keep the Read More Link

  1. Go to Website > Pages >Custom Code > Custom CSS

  2. Copy and paste the code below (scroll down)

  3. Hit ‘Save’

And that’s it! The excerpt text will be hidden, but the “Read More” link will remain intact.

💡 Note: Be sure to check your summary block design after applying the code to ensure everything looks the way you want across all devices.
